Practitioner Bio

Born in Portugal. Married to Isabel Perez. Was a doctor in Venice before coming to New Spain with Luis de Carvajal in 1580. Returned to Venice in 1584. Warrant for his arrest was issued in 1589. Trial in absentia 16 November 1589. Penitenced in absentia 24 February 1590 in Auto in New Spain as a principal ringleader of the Jews. Burned in effigy in New Spain in 1593. Was again accused for Judaizing while absent in 1597. Found guilty in second trial while still absent in 1599, likely hiding in Europe.
